Add sounds to Mozilla Firefox

If there's one thing that Firefox perhaps lacks, it's sounds and audio alerts when you encounter certain issues or perform certain actions while browsing.

Noise is a Firefox extension which plays a sound (a WAV file you of your choice) to accompany certain events. For example, if a popup is blocked, you can hear a "beep" sound or if a new tab is opened, you can hear a swishing sound. In fact, you can add sounds to just about any major action that you can perform in Firefox.

After you've installed Noise, you can go into the Add-ons Manager and select Tools > Add-ons > Extensions where you will find a preferences button for Noise. You can select whether you want to enable sounds at all, and then you can go through each action one by one, selecting the sound that you want to hear. By default, they're all set to bleep which is a bit unimaginative. If you want to add your own sound, you'll have to browse to a WAV file. It's a shame that it only works with WAV files too because they're rather large for such a simple tool and you'd hope that in future version, MP3 support is added.

If you like your browsing to be accompanied by lots of sounds, then Noise can give some life to Firefox.

Changes

Added Noise.log() function to log messages to Error Console. Added "noise-log" event topic, which fires with Noise.log. Added a findbar in Options window. Added Information bar alert (AlertActive) and Noise log (noise-log) events to defaults. Bumped max version to 3.6a1.

  • Pros

    • Adds some life and sound to Firefox
    • Easy to configure
  • Cons

    • All default sounds are a boring beep sound
    • Doesn't support MP3 or other formats

Softonic

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
